About this position

Postdoc in TomoWISE at MAX IV, Lund University

MAX IV at Lund University is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for TomoWISE, a new tomography beamline dedicated to advancing materials science for sustainability. The postdoc will join a specialised team working on beamline installation, commissioning, software implementation, and early scientific use of the facility.

The role combines X-ray tomography, imaging, materials science, and scientific programming. The successful candidate will contribute to optics, sample stages, detectors, tomographic reconstruction, and image analysis, while also developing an independent research project in collaboration with current and future MAX IV users. Research themes may include structural materials, energy materials, geology, and functional materials for sustainability.

Eligibility: a PhD in a STEM field is required, completed within the last three years unless special circumstances apply. Applicants should have experience in materials science or tomography method development, experimental microscopy/imaging preferably with X-rays, hands-on instrumentation and data acquisition, and a strong publication/presentation record. Fluency in English is required. Experience with AI/ML for reconstruction, segmentation, or quantitative analysis is considered a merit.

Employment: full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral position for 2–3 years. Salary is monthly; no stipend amount is specified.

Location: Lund, Sweden.

Deadline: 21 September 2026.

Apply via the Varbi recruitment portal linked in the vacancy. For questions, contact Gerardina Carbone or Johan Adell at MAX IV.
