About this position

Postdoc opportunity at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Faculty of Technology, Policy & Management, focused on transformative policy, law, and sustainability transitions.

The project, EXTRA (From EXperiment to sustainable change: TRAnsformative methodologies for Innovation and learning), addresses the “pilot paradox” by studying how experiments can be mainstreamed, scaled up, spread, broadened, and deepened to create long-term systemic impact.

You will synthesize research on regulatory innovations and policy experiments supporting sustainability transitions in renewable energy, circularity, and biodiversity. The role also includes transdisciplinary action research with societal partners and experimental environments such as AMS Institute, Bouwlab, Dreamhûs, Nationaal Programma Samen Nieuw-West, PRICE Almere, and The Green Village Delft, as well as regime-level actors including ministries and provincial planning bodies.

The position is embedded in a broader team with 3 PhD researchers, another postdoc, and senior researchers across partner institutions. You will help develop interfaces between experiments and policymakers and may contribute to academic articles, public-facing articles, and a podcast.

Eligibility highlights: PhD degree or near completion in public administration, political science, law, or a related field; experience with transdisciplinary/action research; strong teamwork and communication; Dutch and English at C1 level.

Funding and conditions: 2.5-year temporary postdoc contract, externally funded, 32–38 hours per week, salary range €3546–€5538, with standard Dutch university employment benefits.

Deadline: 17 August 2026. Interviews are scheduled for 31 August and 18 September.

How to apply: Apply online through the TU Delft application portal and upload a CV, motivation letter, one-page research approach proposal, and degree transcripts.
