About this position

Inria is advertising a postdoctoral research visit on update-friendly data structures for 3D city modelling, within the TITANE team at the Inria Centre at Université Côte d’Azur. The work is part of the JUNN / Digital Twin of France and its Territories project, in collaboration with IGN, Cerema, Luxcarta, and GeometryFactory.

The research focuses on geometry processing, computational geometry, 3D computer vision, and geometric data structures for urban reconstruction from remote sensing data such as airborne LiDAR. The goal is to design a new generation of space-partitioning structures that can better represent non-planar urban shapes such as curved facades and freeform roofs, while remaining efficient, scalable, and easy to update over time.

The postdoc will explore two main directions: extending line and plane arrangements with more expressive hybrid or parametric structures, and developing update-friendly representations that can be locally modified without rebuilding entire city models. The work will use the CGAL library and may involve binary space partitioning trees and efficient parsing of geometric atomic elements.

Eligibility: applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in computer science and have a strong background in 3D geometry, geometry processing and/or computational geometry, computer vision, and applied mathematics. Strong C/C++ programming skills and fluent English are required.

Location: Sophia Antipolis, France. Contract: fixed-term, 2 years. Salary: 2,788 EUR gross per month, plus standard Inria benefits.

Deadline: 2026-11-30. Applications must be submitted online via the Inria job portal.
