Postdoc in Visualising Social and Environmental Disruptions in Forest and Coastal Communities Wageningen University & Research in Netherlands

Wageningen University & Research is recruiting a 2-year postdoctoral researcher for a project on visualising and mapping social and environmental disruptions in forest and coastal communities.

The postdoc will work across the Forest and Nature Conservation Policy Group (FNP) and the Cultural Geography Group (GEO) at Wageningen University, in the Department of Environmental Sciences. The project focuses on critical landscape research, human-nature relationships, and intersectional geospatial analysis of climate-change-related disturbances such as floods, wind, and drought. The researcher will combine GIS with critical social science, ethnographic fieldwork, interviews, and multimedia methods to study how environmental disruptions affect landscapes and dependent communities.

Two project sites will be selected together with the supervisors; the current examples are in Poland and the United States, but alternative sites may be proposed. The role includes designing and leading interdisciplinary research, producing two publications, and creating maps and/or an ESRI StoryMap. The position is based on site at Wageningen University in the Netherlands and involves active participation in both chair groups.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in geography, geosciences, GIS, anthropology, archaeology, landscape planning, environmental science, or a related field; strong GIS skills; qualitative interviewing and multimedia research experience; English at C1; additional languages are an asset.

Funding and terms: competitive salary of €3,546–€5,538 gross/month for a 38-hour week, with Dutch university employment benefits. The contract starts as a one-year appointment and may be extended to cover the full project duration.
