The Forest and Nature Conservation Policy Group (FNP) and the Cultural Geography Group (GEO) are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work on critical landscape research at the intersection of
geography
,
environmental science
,
GIS
, and
social science
. The project focuses on climate-change-triggered disturbances such as floods, wind, and drought, and how these disruptions affect landscapes and dependent communities, especially in forested settings.
The postdoc will conduct an
intersectional geospatial analysis
, combine quantitative and qualitative approaches, and carry out field-based research using interviews, ethnographic methods, and multimedia data collection. The work will contribute to maps, publications, and an ESRI StoryMap, with two project sites to be selected in collaboration with the supervisors. Existing sites are in Poland and the United States, but alternative forested landscapes may be proposed.

Jennifer Veilleux (Assistant Professor, Cultural Geography Group) and Agata Konczal (Assistant Professor, Forest and Nature Conservation Policy Group), both at Wageningen University & Research.
Eligibility highlights:
PhD in geography, geosciences, GIS, anthropology, archaeology, landscape planning, environmental science, or a related field; strong GIS skills; experience with qualitative social science methods; English at C1 level. Additional languages and international/interdisciplinary project experience are assets.
Funding and contract:
24-month postdoctoral appointment, initially one year with possible extension. Salary ranges from €3,546 to €5,538 gross per month for a 38-hour week, plus standard Dutch university employment benefits.
