About this position

The German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbruecke (DIfE), a member of the Leibniz Association, is offering 1 Postdoc (m/f/d) in the Department of Experimental Diabetology and the Junior Research Group Epigenetics of Obesity and Diabetes. The position starts on 1 January 2027 and is based in Nuthetal, Brandenburg, Germany.

This postdoc role is designed for a highly motivated Computational Biologist / Bioinformatician interested in how obesity and type 2 diabetes reshape the epigenome. The research aims to identify disease-associated genes and epigenetic alterations, using lean and obese mouse models and translational validation in humans. The scientific context includes interventions such as intermittent fasting, endurance training, and bariatric surgery, making this a strong fit for candidates interested in computational biology, epigenetics, and metabolic disease research.

The main tasks include end-to-end data analysis, quality control, data integration, and inference of regulatory networks. The successful candidate will analyze and interpret multiome datasets, including transcriptomics, epigenomics, and related modalities, and will apply advanced computational and statistical methods for integrative analysis of multi-layer biological data. The role also involves generating clear visualizations, reports, and written summaries, and collaborating closely with laboratory scientists to connect biological questions with computational analyses.

The position is full-time (40 hours/week), temporary, and available for 1 year. Funding is provided through the institution as a staff post, with remuneration according to TV-L level 13 plus annual special payment and a company pension scheme. Additional benefits include excellent technical equipment, a dynamic and interactive research environment, family-friendly working conditions, a jobticket, easy access by public transport or car, 30 days of vacation, and participation in the Corporate Benefits program.

Applicants should have an excellent Master’s degree and a PhD or equivalent in Computational Science, Bioinformatics, or a related area. The post specifically asks for a strong background in genetics and epigenetics, experience with multiome data analysis such as lipidomics, proteomics, and ATAC-seq, expertise in R or Python, and strong communication and teamwork skills. Fluency in spoken and written English is required.

The application deadline is 8 November 2026 (23:59, Europe/Berlin). Applicants should submit a single PDF with a cover letter, CV, copies of degrees/certificates, and references, using reference number 2026_W12_E, by email to [email protected]. Informal scientific contact is available via PD Dr. Heike Vogel ([email protected]), Deputy Head of the Department Experimental Diabetology.
