About this position

Leiden University is offering a postdoctoral position in causal machine learning for spatio-temporal datasets within the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS). The project focuses on developing advanced machine learning methods for the automatic and scalable assessment of interventions using observational spatio-temporal data. The research agenda is centered on causal discovery, causal inference, and scalable algorithmic solutions for spatio-temporal data, with application areas such as reducing methane emissions or lowering infection rates during pandemics.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold, or be close to acquiring, a PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field. The ideal candidate should have a strong publication record, strong programming skills, excellent English communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in an academic environment.

Funding and terms: the role is partially funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) through an Aspasia premium, and is a full-time 2.5-year appointment. The salary ranges from €3,546 to €5,538 gross per month (Payscale 10), with holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus, pension contributions, public transport reimbursement, laptop provision, and flexible/hybrid working possibilities in the Netherlands.
