About this position
ForWind – Center for Wind Energy Research at Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg is advertising a Postdoc Position / Research Assistant (f/m/d) in Adaptive and Robust Wind Farm Control. The role sits in the WESys research group and focuses on control engineering for wind turbines and wind farms, with an emphasis on adaptive and robust strategies, experimental validation, and collaboration with industrial and academic partners.
The research topics include designing and validating control algorithms for multiple objectives such as power maximisation, system services, and structural load or noise reduction. Depending on background and interests, the work can align with either loads-aware wind farm control and lifetime optimisation or control in complex terrain, uncertainty quantification, and improved grid integration. The position involves simulation-the-loop studies on an HPC cluster and experimental testing in wind tunnel or open-field settings, including access to the DLR research wind farm WiValdi.
This is a full-time salaried research position at TV-L E13 (100%), initially limited until 31 March 2029. The post offers a modern research environment at WindLab Oldenburg, multidisciplinary collaboration with ForWind and Fraunhofer IWES, links to national and international academic partners, and opportunities for teaching, publications, conferences, and professional development.
Eligibility highlights: a qualifying master’s degree in Control, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Physical Sciences, Wind Energy, Renewable Energy or equivalent; a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or equivalent; strong control engineering knowledge; programming experience in Matlab or Python; very good English; and motivation for applied research. Experience in wind energy, wind turbine dynamics, wake interaction, wind farm control, time abroad, and German language skills are desirable but not mandatory.
Application deadline: 11 August 2026. Applicants should email one PDF application to [email protected] with reference #WEB129, including a motivation letter, CV, one-page research statement, transcripts, diplomas, and employment references. An optional second PDF with a dissertation or relevant papers may also be included.
