About this position
University of Hamburg is advertising a Research Associate (Postdoc) position in Functional Ecology within the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences, Department of Biology, Institute of Animal Cell and Systems Biology, Functional Ecology Group.
The research focus is on the “Costs of Life” and the ecological and physiological responses animals use to cope with changing and extreme conditions such as seasonality, climate change, and urbanization. The group works at the intersection of ecology and physiology, with particular emphasis on energy budgeting, thermoregulation, and nutritional ecology of small mammals. Experience in field work and experimental lab work is important, and applicants are expected to bring relevant expertise and publications in these areas.
The successful candidate will strengthen and expand the research focus and methods of the Functional Ecology Group led by Prof. Dr. Kathrin Dausmann. The postdoc will have the opportunity to develop an independent research profile, pursue their own ideas, and attract external funding. Field project ideas in Hamburg are especially welcome. International scientific experience is considered a plus, and the role includes teaching and supervising students.
This is a full-time postdoctoral appointment at EGR. 13 TV-L, starting 01.12.2026, fixed for three years with a possible extension of up to three more years depending on performance and available position. Teaching is 4 hours per week during the semester and mainly covers ecological and physiological courses at BSc and MSc level.
