About this position
The Computer Vision Center (CVC) in Cerdanyola del Vallès, Barcelona, is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for its Multispectral Image Analysis and Understanding (MSIAU) group. The position is part of the Horizon Europe project AgriscienceFM: AI Foundation Models in Agricultural Sciences, a consortium of 11 research institutes and universities focused on advancing AI for agricultural research and innovation.
The successful candidate will work on agri-environmental foundation models using multimodal data, including Earth observation imagery, weather information, soil data, and agriculture-specific spatial and temporal masks. The role also involves pretext tasks such as phenology observations and synthetic crop growth model outputs, with applications ranging from crop type classification and yield forecasting to protein content estimation, soil health analysis, and farm advisory systems.
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing preprocessing pipelines for large multimodal agricultural datasets, developing foundation models trained on co-located remote sensing and weather data, and evaluating models on benchmark tasks such as crop and water monitoring, phenological monitoring, yield outlooks, and irrigation water needs estimation.
CVC is a non-profit research center founded by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, with a strong international reputation in computer vision and knowledge transfer to industry and society. The position offers a full-time contract of 37.5 hours per week, flexible working hours, access to advanced computing pipelines and proprietary GPU servers, and ongoing training in data analysis and foundation model fine-tuning. The gross salary is 31,211 EUR per year.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline, and should have strong experience in deep learning, computer vision, foundation models, multispectral image processing, Python, and modern machine learning frameworks. Experience in remote sensing, agriculture applications, and high-performance computing is an advantage. Excellent English, communication, analytical, and collaborative skills are expected.
The appointment starts as soon as possible, with a closing date of 7 October 2026. The position is funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe Grant Agreement No. 101293777.
