About this position
Bielefeld University’s Department of Chemical Ecology is recruiting a Postdoc for research on plant chemodiversity, metabolomics, and the effects of specialised metabolites on interacting organisms.
The project focuses on the role of plant metabolites in interactions between plants and microorganisms or insects, including questions related to global change, ecological and evolutionary responses, and chemical communication. The successful candidate will use chemical-analytical methods, bioassays, fieldwork, and statistical analysis, and will also contribute to plant and insect rearing, data analysis, publication writing, grant writing, teaching, and maintenance of GC-MS equipment.
This is a full-time fixed-term research position at TV-L E13 for 3 years, with an option to extend. The post is employment-based and includes training opportunities and standard university benefits.
Applicants should have a completed Master’s degree or equivalent and a PhD in Biology or a related field. Required experience includes chemical-ecological research methods and/or metabolomics, GC-MS analysis, strong statistical skills in R, and peer-reviewed publications in ecology or chemical ecology. Very good English is required; German, LC-MS, fieldwork, and teaching experience are preferred.
The application deadline is 2026-07-29. Applicants should apply via the university’s online application form on the job page.
