About this position
Two postdoctoral positions are available at the Adaptive Quantum Optics (AQO) chair within the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Twente in the Netherlands.
The project, Photonics for Quantum (P4Q), focuses on photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for quantum communication and quantum networking. The work includes the design of photonic circuits, hybrid integration of high-brightness III–V photonic-crystal single-photon sources with low-loss SiN routing circuits, and extensive quantum-optical characterization after fabrication.
The positions offer the chance to work across the full chain from integrated photonic design and hybrid integration to laboratory experiments and field demonstrations. The team collaborates with the Applied Nanophotonics department at the University of Twente and with partners in a European consortium including Thales, LioniX International, TNO, and QuiX Quantum. The project also involves dark-fiber field experiments between the University of Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences, and a planned link to the University of Münster in Germany.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Physics, strong background in integrated photonics and (quantum) optics, good teamwork and communication skills, and excellent English. Dutch or German is considered an advantage.
Funding and conditions: full-time appointment for up to 2.5 years, with salary between €4,422 and €5,760 gross per month under the Dutch university collective agreement, plus holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus, pension, leave hours, and other staff benefits.
Application: apply through AcademicTransfer before 30 September 2026. A cover letter (max 2 pages) and CV are required; include courses, grades, and publications if applicable. Screening is part of the procedure. For more information, contact Pepijn Pinkse at [email protected].
