About this position

KU Leuven is advertising postdoctoral positions in pure mathematics within the Methusalem-funded project “Classification, symmetries and singularities at the frontiers of algebra, analysis and geometry”. The research environment brings together several KU Leuven pure mathematics groups and offers colloquia, seminars, advanced courses, and collaboration opportunities across algebra, analysis, and geometry.

The postdoc project spans several interconnected areas: algebraic and arithmetic geometry, random matrices and complex analysis, differential geometry, functional analysis and operator algebras, and group theory and Lie algebras. Candidates are expected to develop their own research program, with special interest in proposals that bridge two or more of these areas. Postdocs may also help supervise PhD students, organize seminars and advanced courses, and take on limited teaching duties.

Eligibility: applicants must hold a PhD in mathematics (or expect to obtain it before fall 2027), have a strong research record in one of the listed areas, and be fluent in English. No Dutch knowledge is required. The position is based at KU Leuven in Leuven, Belgium.

Funding: the appointment is a competitive three-year postdoctoral fellowship funded by long-term Methusalem funding. The offer includes conference and research-travel support, health insurance, and social benefits for the postdoc and accompanying family members.

How to apply: submit the application through KU Leuven’s online tool by 19 November 2026. Upload exactly three PDF files: (1) motivation letter, (2) CV with complete publication list, names of three references, and tentative PhD defense date, and (3) a three-year research plan. For questions, contact Prof. dr. Karel Dekimpe at [email protected].
