About this position
This postdoctoral project at Chalmers University of Technology offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative research in molecular bioscience, specifically focusing on the development of novel nanoprobes for molecular detection of glycan signatures. The position is based in the Division of Molecular Bioscience within the Department of Life Sciences, which is dedicated to advancing research, innovation, and education for a biobased society and improved human health. The department leverages advanced computational technologies and biological systems to convert biomass into valuable products and pioneers new methods for disease prediction, prevention, diagnostics, and treatment.
The research project centers on creating advanced chemical sensing platforms and nanomaterial-based systems for biological applications. Emphasis is placed on chemical sensor arrays capable of detecting glycans and other relevant molecules, integrating organic chemistry, materials science, and chemical biology. Applications span diagnostics and therapeutic technologies, making this project highly interdisciplinary and impactful for both academic and industrial sectors.
As a postdoc, you will design and synthesize organic molecules and hybrid nanomaterials, develop and characterize biosensing platforms and nanoparticle systems, and perform advanced experimental and analytical work. Responsibilities include analyzing and interpreting scientific data, publishing research results in peer-reviewed journals, supervising master’s and/or PhD students, and contributing to teaching activities at undergraduate or master’s level. The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Biology, or a related field, or an equivalent foreign degree, completed by the time of employment decision. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required, along with documented experience in organic synthesis, nanomaterials or polymeric systems, biosensing or fluorescent probes, and analytical techniques such as spectroscopy, chromatography, and/or microscopy. Collaboration skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment are essential. Teaching experience and research potential are valued, and it is highly meritorious if the doctoral degree was obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline. Experience with chemical sensor arrays, glycan-related research, drug delivery systems, biomedical materials, and interdisciplinary projects at the interface of chemistry and biology will strengthen your application.
The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence is required throughout the employment, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date. Chalmers offers a dynamic and inspiring working environment in Gothenburg, Sweden, with generous employee benefits, including parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, and healthcare. The university is committed to gender balance, equality, and inclusion, and offers Swedish language courses for international staff.
To apply, submit your application via the online application form by June 12, 2026. Attach your CV, publication list, details of teaching experience, and a personal letter outlining your research background and future goals. Applications must be complete and written in English; incomplete or emailed applications will not be considered. References will be requested after the interview. For questions, contact Associate Professor Alexandra Stubelius at [email protected].
