About this position
The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) is recruiting a Postdoc / Research Scientist (m/f/d) for the Kinship Inequalities Research Group in Rostock, Germany.
This is a full-time, 3-year research position focused on kinship demography, with interdisciplinary links to demography, sociology, anthropology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, and biology. The group, led by Diego Alburez-Gutierrez, works on kin availability, kin loss, family composition, generational overlap, resource exchange, and the measurement and modelling of kinship.
The call especially welcomes applicants interested in kin loss or bereavement, family composition and demographic change, generational overlap and resource exchange, and measuring and modelling kinship. The institute also highlights interest in research on kinship dynamics in crisis contexts such as armed conflict, natural disasters, epidemics, and climate change, as well as work that develops social theory around kinship demography or family bereavement.
Applicants must hold a PhD or expect to complete it before the start date. The post encourages candidates with experience in open science practices. Application materials include a CV, a short letter of interest, a research statement, two academic referees, and two writing samples.
The position is based on-site at MPIDR in Rostock and offers remuneration under the German public sector salary structure (TVöD Bund), with a starting salary of approximately 67,560 EUR gross/year for newly completed PhDs and up to approximately 77,700 EUR gross/year for more senior scientists.
