Postdoc Researcher at the Environment and Climate Department at the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, Cyprus University of Technology, Cyprus.

This postdoctoral opening is in the Land Cluster of the Environment & Climate Department and is centred on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Environmental Footprint methods, and project management. The successful researcher will help manage and coordinate funded projects while also serving as the technical expert for LCA work in the cluster. The role is closely connected to land use, land management, soil health, ecosystem services, and the environmental performance of agri-environmental practices.

The work involves applying internationally recognised standards and methods, including ISO 14040/14044/14067, the EU Product/Organisation Environmental Footprint (PEF/OEF) framework, and the ILCD handbook. The postdoc will lead studies covering goal and scope definition, life cycle inventory compilation, life cycle impact assessment, and interpretation, using software and databases such as SimaPro, GaBi/Sphera, openLCA/NEXUS, and Ecoinvent. There is also scope to contribute to Social LCA and Life Cycle Costing where relevant.

The position sits within a research environment focused on earth observation, space technology, geospatial analysis, and sustainability-oriented innovation. ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence participates in multiple EU and other funded projects, including the flagship Excelsior H2020 Teaming project, as well as LandShift, ReBorn, Nemesis, AfroGrow, and Nostradamus. These projects address topics such as climate change, biodiversity loss, sustainable land management, ecosystem resilience, post-crisis recovery, nature-based solutions, and data-driven decision-making.

The appointment is for 12 months with the prospect of renewal for a further year. The annual gross salary for full-time employment ranges from €36,732.10 to €52,908.42 depending on qualifications, and a 13th salary is included proportionally in the monthly remuneration. The post may also be offered on a part-time basis, but the researcher must be physically present at the Centre’s premises in Limassol, Cyprus. Non-EU applicants will require a work permit.

Applicants should hold a doctoral degree from a recognised university and have a strong publication and/or professional record in LCA, environmental footprint assessment, sustainability science, or a closely related area. Experience with Earth Observation or geospatial data, project coordination, reporting, proposal preparation, and land/soil/ecosystem-service topics will strengthen the application. Excellent English is required, and Greek is an advantage.
