About this position

Postdoc Researcher: Dry Etch for 2D and 1D Materials at imec in Leuven, Belgium is a research position focused on developing next-generation dry etch solutions for low-dimensional materials.

The project targets transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs, 2D) and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs, 1D), which are of growing interest for advanced CMOS technologies, DNA sensing, and other future device applications. The work centers on enabling low-damage transfer and contact patterning processes, with an emphasis on creating low-resistance electrical contacts and improving device fabrication flows for these emerging materials.

You will join imec’s Dry Etch group and work in a highly collaborative environment with integration, metrology, and device teams. The role involves designing, executing, and analyzing experiments for advanced plasma, vapor, or combined plasma/vapor etch processes; exploring new etch concepts, materials, and chemistries; supporting process transfer and standardization; and communicating results in internal reviews, partner meetings, conferences, and scientific publications.

The position uses imec’s state-of-the-art 300 mm pilot line, Explore lab, and advanced characterization infrastructure.
