About this position
Postdoc opening at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) in Bremen, Germany, within the TropEcS Research Group “Earth System Modelling”.
The role is for a Postdoc (gn) – Scientific Programmer (Ref: 31-STB-PB2-PD) focused on modelling socio-economic dimensions across Tropical Coastal Ecosystems and the Earth System. The project links socioeconomics, marine ecology, physical oceanography, biogeochemistry, and Earth System modelling.
Research tasks include running km-scale ocean and coupled Earth system simulations, advancing understanding of tropical dynamics, mesoscale/submesoscale eddies, and wave-driven turbulence, extending models with new parameterizations, publishing results, and contributing to an interdisciplinary team.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD is required, with a background in meteorology, oceanography, physics, climate science, or a related area. Applicants should have experience developing/applying ocean or Earth system models on HPC systems, strong geophysical dynamics knowledge, strong programming and data analysis skills, and a strong publication record.
Funding: full-time position for up to 36 months, starting as soon as possible, with gross salary €5366.89–€6764.69/month (TV-L E13). There is a formal assessment after 18 months and, if needed, after 24 months for possible conversion to a permanent position under WissZeitVG.
