About this position
University of Salzburg is advertising a PostDoc Senior Scientist position in Applied Mathematics and Cybersecurity within the Department of Computer Science, Division MATRIS (“Mathematics for Testing, Resilience and Information Security”). The group works on the mathematical foundations of complex, resilient, and secure systems, with research spanning combinatorial designs, combinatorial testing, software testing, robustness and reliability of complex systems, disaster management, symbolic computation, optimization algorithms, and mathematical aspects of information security.
The role includes applying mathematical modelling to cybercrisis scenarios, designing and implementing cybersecurity scenarios for training exercises, and creating cybersecurity workshops and educational materials. The post is closely connected to the MATRIS research group, led by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dimitris Simos, and is part of a joint research lab between the University of Salzburg and Salzburg University of Applied Sciences.
Eligibility highlights: completed PhD in informatics, computer science, or a related field; documented advanced expertise in applied mathematics and cybersecurity; experience in R&D projects in cybersecurity; experience in knowledge transfer and science outreach; strong German language skills; and excellent English plus teamwork, analytical, and organizational skills. Desired experience includes discrete mathematics applications to cybersecurity, software security/testing, cybersecurity crisis management, complex systems, project management, and outreach/event organization.
Funding and employment: temporary employment from 2026-10-01 to 2027-12-31, 12.5 hours/week, with an annual gross salary of at least €70,200.20 for a full-time position and possible overpayment depending on qualification and experience.
