About this position
Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health, Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing, is hiring a PostDoc/Research Associate to join the Lena Smirnova Lab.
The project sits at the intersection of neuroscience, electrophysiology, optogenetics, gene editing, neural organoids, and new approach methodologies (NAMs). The lab develops predictive, human-relevant in vitro models using iPSC-derived brain organoids and microphysiological systems to study developmental neurotoxicology, gene × environment interactions, disease modeling, and molecular mechanisms of cellular responses to environmental stress.
The advertised role focuses on developing the next generation of optogenetically regulated organoids to investigate synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory.
Ideal candidates should bring relevant expertise in neuroscience and related experimental techniques, especially electrophysiology, optogenetics, and gene editing. The post is based at Johns Hopkins University in the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Starting date: October 2026. Interested candidates are asked to contact Lena Smirnova directly via LinkedIn message.
