About this position

Tokyo University of Science’s Quantum Informatics Group is recruiting researchers for quantum science and technology in the Kanto region of Japan (Kanagawa Prefecture, Suzukakedai Campus). The position is researcher/postdoc-equivalent and is centered on interdisciplinary work spanning quantum physics, materials science, electrical engineering, quantum sensing, quantum devices, and data science.

The group, led by Associate Professor Keigo Arai, is building a research architecture that includes quantum metrology and machine learning, diamond quantum electronics, quantum materials under extreme conditions, environmental and infrastructure sensing, and quantum probability/social informatics. The lab emphasizes original, PI-oriented research directions rather than incremental extensions of existing work.

Successful candidates may work on one or more themes such as advanced quantum control and measurement, diamond quantum electronics, quantum materials exploration, environmental/ocean sensing, or applications of quantum probability to cognitive and social systems. The group welcomes concept-driven researchers, system-building researchers, and experimental researchers who can accelerate research through automation and reproducibility.

Applicants must hold a PhD or expect to obtain one by the start date. A strong research record in a related field is required, along with the ability to independently drive the full research cycle from problem setting to experimentation, analysis, and publication. Experience with quantum sensing, NV centers, electrochemical measurements, apparatus development, or machine learning/data analysis is desirable.

The appointment is fixed-term and non-tenure-track, with a salary of approximately JPY 4 million to 8 million per year. The start date is negotiable and as soon as possible after hiring. Applications are reviewed from 2026-03-16 to 2026-09-30, and may close early if a suitable candidate is found.

To apply, email PDF versions of the required documents: CV, list of achievements, summary of previous research, future research plan, and contact details for two referees. Send them to [email protected] with the specified subject line.

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.

How to apply

Please submit your application including a cover letter, CV, academic transcripts, and contact information for two references. Applications should be sent via the online portal before the deadline.
