About this position
The Breaker Laboratory at Yale University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate / Bioinformatician for a project on the computational discovery of mammalian riboswitches. The work sits at the intersection of bioinformatics, computational biology, RNA biology, comparative genomics, machine learning, and transcriptomics, with close integration of experimental molecular biology.
The successful candidate will develop computational pipelines to identify evolutionarily conserved structured RNAs and candidate mammalian riboswitches from large genomics and transcriptomics datasets, then collaborate with experimental scientists who will validate predictions through biochemical, genetic, and cellular studies. The lab is internationally recognized for discoveries in riboswitches and structured noncoding RNAs and is part of the Yale Center for RNA Science and Medicine.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a related field. Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages are required, along with experience handling large biological datasets, Linux/HPC environments, and strong analytical and communication skills. Helpful experience includes comparative genomics, RNA secondary structure prediction, covariance models, RNA homology search, machine learning/AI for biological data, and transcriptomics analysis.
Funding: the position is supported by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation. It is a full-time appointment with an initial one-year term, renewable annually based on satisfactory progress and continued funding. Salary and benefits follow Yale University policies.
How to apply: send a cover letter, CV or résumé, and contact details for three professional references to Dr. Ron Breaker at ronald.breaker@yale.edu. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
