About this position
Yale School of Medicine is advertising a Postdoctoral Associate in Cardiovascular AI and Medical Imaging within the Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Cardiovascular Medicine, and the Yale Cardiovascular Data Science (CarDS) Laboratory in New Haven, Connecticut, United States.
The position sits in the Oikonomou Group and is supported primarily through the DISCOVER-AI initiative in the Wellcome Leap VISIBLE program. The research focus is on clinically grounded artificial intelligence and data science for cardiovascular medicine, with emphasis on deriving scalable digital biomarkers from echocardiography, cardiac CT, ECG, portable ultrasound, and linked electronic health-record data. Related projects include cardiometabolic disease, cardiovascular imaging, multimodal prediction, and implementation of imaging-derived biomarkers.
This is a postdoctoral opening for candidates with a PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree completed by the start date. The role is designed for researchers interested in the intersection of cardiovascular medicine, medical imaging, computer vision, machine learning, and clinical data science. Required skills include strong Python programming, Linux experience, and demonstrated machine learning or deep learning experience. Preferred experience includes PyTorch, DICOM/PACS workflows, image classification or segmentation, multimodal learning, clinical prediction modeling, Git, Docker, and scientific writing.
The postdoctoral associate will develop, validate, and translate reproducible AI methods; build scalable image and data pipelines; work with large multimodal datasets; and contribute to retrospective, prospective, and implementation-oriented studies. Training and mentoring include regular meetings with the PI, lab meetings, seminars, manuscript and grant development, and opportunities to present at Yale and external conferences.
Funding is described as project-supported, with appointment renewal contingent on performance and continued funding. Yale cites a FY26 minimum compensation schedule of $68,500 for Year 1, $69,000 for Year 2, and $69,500 for Year 3, plus possible benefits under applicable policies.
The application deadline is September 15, 2026, and the anticipated start date is October 1, 2026. Applicants should email a cover letter, CV, and two or three professional references to [email protected] with the subject line “Postdoctoral Associate – Cardiovascular AI and Medical Imaging.”
