About this position

Postdoctoral Associate at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, United States.

This postdoctoral opening supports an NIH-funded research project on the impacts of brominated flame retardant exposure on placental thyroid hormone regulation. The work is embedded in the Project HOPE 1000 pregnancy cohort and involves collaboration with research staff and PhD students.

The position is strongly research-intensive and combines environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental health, public health, biology, and statistics. Core tasks include in vitro thyroid enzymatic activity assays, liquid chromatography mass spectrometry analyses, and nontargeted analyses of placenta tissue using gas chromatography orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry. The role also includes targeted and nontargeted analysis of semi-volatile organic compounds, statistical analysis of epidemiological cohort data, manuscript preparation, and mentoring graduate students.

Required preparation includes a PhD in environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental health, or a related field. Applicants should have experience with exposure assessment for semi-volatile organic compounds, operation of LC-MS/MS and GC-HRMS instruments, sample collection and analysis for organic contaminants or biomarkers of exposure, epidemiologic study design and implementation, and data management/statistical expertise related to environmental mixtures.

The appointment is full time, available immediately, with a preferred start date before 2026-09-15 and an end date of 2027-03-31.
