About this position
University of Florida / IFAS is recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate for research on pasture mealybug management in sugarcane at the Everglades Research and Education Center in Belle Glade, Florida. The project focuses on integrated pest management for an invasive sugarcane pest, Heliococcus novovillei, with work spanning field experiments and greenhouse bioassays.
The postdoc will lead three main research objectives: (1) determine relationships among mealybug density, leaf yellowing, and sugar yields; (2) evaluate chemical control strategies; and (3) screen commercially relevant sugarcane cultivars for resistance or tolerance. The role includes designing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at scientific and stakeholder meetings, and supervising technical personnel.
This is a full-time, two-year position funded through external grants/USDA funding. Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Continued employment beyond the initial appointment may be possible depending on performance and funding availability.
Eligibility highlights: Ph.D. in Entomology, Crop Protection, Agronomy, Plant Science, or a closely related field; experience in experimental design, statistical analysis, and scientific writing; strong communication skills; ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team; valid driver's license. Preferred experience includes IPM field studies, insecticide efficacy studies, plant-insect interactions, and greenhouse/field research. Applicants should be willing to work under South Florida environmental conditions.
