About this position

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University at Buffalo is recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Associate to join an interdisciplinary program in image-guided navigation for neurovascular interventions.

The project focuses on developing and evaluating medical robotic systems with artificial intelligence capabilities for vascular navigation using catheter and guidewire technologies guided by X-ray fluoroscopy and digital subtraction angiography (DSA). The successful candidate will work with clinicians, engineers, and research collaborators to advance system development, validate methods, and publish findings.

Research topics include robotics, mechatronics, embedded control systems, reinforcement learning, autonomous guidewire shaping and control, CAD-based prototyping, and experimental validation of endovascular navigation systems.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field; experience in robotics/device development, PCB design, microcontrollers, CAD, 3D printing, AI/ML, and scientific programming (Python, C/C++, MATLAB). Strong publication record and teamwork skills are expected.

Preferred experience includes clinical or translational research, neurovascular anatomy, mechanical thrombectomy, image-guided surgical systems, ROS, and mentoring students.

Funding: The post lists a salary range of 60000.00 and is a full-time research position. The post does not mention tuition or scholarship funding.

Location: Buffalo, New York, United States.

Deadline: Open until filled; the posting also lists a date to be filled of 2026-09-15.
