About this position
Weill Cornell Medicine is recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate in Metabolism, Diabetes, and Quantitative Cell Signaling in the Teruel Laboratory. The project focuses on how cells and tissues decode dynamic endocrine signals—especially glucocorticoid and insulin rhythms—to regulate insulin action, metabolic adaptation, and communication among organs.
The lab combines quantitative cell signaling, live-cell imaging, molecular biology, integrative physiology, mouse models, metabolic phenotyping, tissue imaging, and computational analysis. Research directions include pancreatic islets, liver, adipose tissue, circadian regulation, hormone signaling, glucose homeostasis, and the mechanisms linking disrupted glucocorticoid rhythms to obesity, insulin resistance, and diabetes.
This postdoctoral role is well suited to candidates who want to bridge mechanistic cell signaling with physiological studies of metabolism and develop an independent research direction. Previous circadian biology experience is not required, and strong complementary expertise is welcome.
Eligibility: applicants must hold a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field such as cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, metabolism, physiology, endocrinology, or diabetes research. Strong experimental or quantitative training is expected, along with the ability to design experiments, analyze data, communicate clearly, and work independently in a collaborative setting.
Preferred experience includes microscopy, biosensors, mouse physiology, endocrine disease models, omics, immunofluorescence, western blotting, qPCR, RNA-seq, tissue morphometry, and quantitative analysis tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, ImageJ/Fiji, QuPath, Imaris, CellProfiler, or GraphPad Prism.
Funding: minimum starting salary is $75,812, with benefits and visa options (J-1 or H-1B) mentioned. The appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal.
