About this position
Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities, Minneapolis, United States) in the Schlatter and Khokhani labs.
This opening focuses on microbial legacies of alfalfa cropping, corn-associated microbiomes, plant health, plant pathology, microbiome analysis, metagenomics, and bioinformatics. The project uses existing multi-year amplicon datasets from the University of Minnesota Long-Term Agricultural Research Network and expands them with deep metagenomic sequencing, microbial genome reconstruction, community-scale metabolic modeling, and cultivation of rhizosphere/root-associated microbes.
The postdoc will also design and test synthetic communities, evaluate nutrient uptake and suppression of corn pathogens (Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, Pythium spp.), lead data collection and analysis, and contribute to manuscripts, grant writing, conferences, and student mentoring.
Requirements include a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Plant Microbiology, or Molecular Biology, plus a strong publication record. Preferred skills include amplicon/shotgun sequencing analysis, R/Python, HPC, molecular microbiology, PCR, DNA extraction, greenhouse/growth chamber experiments, and experience with alfalfa and maize systems.
Funding is a competitive postdoctoral salary ($62,232-$65,000) with full benefits. The appointment is initially for one year, with renewal dependent on performance and/or funding; a 2-3 year commitment is preferred.
Applications are submitted online and the position is open until filled.
