About this position
Postdoctoral Associate opportunity at the University of Minnesota in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, working in the Gale Laboratory on virus-host interactions, innate immunity, and viral regulation of immune responses.
The project is strongly research-oriented and combines virology, microbiology, immunology, functional genomics, and bioinformatics. The lab studies molecular mechanisms of innate immune activation and therapeutic targets for innate immune therapeutics to combat viral infection. Research systems include cell culture, mouse models, nonhuman primate models, and human cohorts, with work in BSL2, BSL3, and related high-containment environments.
Research topics include RNA viruses and virus/host interactions, outbreak response, isolation of virus from primary specimens, development and evaluation of infection models, RNA sequencing-based approaches such as ATAC-seq, CITE-seq, bulk mRNA-seq, and GeoMx spatial-seq, and analysis of immune responses in animals and humans. The role also includes data analysis, presentations, and manuscript preparation.
Eligibility highlights: Ph.D. or equivalent in virology, microbiology, cell biology, immunology, or a related field; strong molecular/cellular biology and virology skills; experience with ELISA, antibody characterization, western blot, PCR, cloning, protein expression/purification, and tissue culture; excellent communication and organization; ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks. Preferred experience includes BSL2+/BSL3 work, HIV-1/SIV, flaviviruses, alphaviruses, influenza A virus, SARS-CoV-2, bioinformatics, and protocol experience with IACUC and human subjects.
Funding: Full-time postdoctoral appointment with salary of $63,480/year plus benefits.
Application: Apply online via the University of Minnesota job portal. Submit a cover letter and resume; additional documents may be uploaded later through the applicant portal. No deadline was stated in the post.
