About this position

The Nemudryi Lab at the University of Florida College of Medicine is recruiting postdoctoral researchers to work on two interconnected research directions: bacterial phage defense and RNA repair / CRISPR-based RNA editing.

Project 1: Molecular Mechanisms of Phage Defense. The lab studies immune systems that bacteria use to fight phages, with emphasis on how these systems detect infection and activate antiviral responses. Research directions include structural and biochemical analysis of viral trigger recognition, mechanisms of immune activation, reconstitution of immune complexes in vitro, and computational prediction of novel defense systems.

Project 2: RNA Repair and Programmable RNA Editing. The group is investigating how cells respond to RNA damage and how RNA repair can be harnessed for programmable RNA deletions and new RNA-targeting tools. Current work includes biochemical characterization of RNA ligases and repair enzymes, transcriptome-wide analysis of RNA repair, and development of CRISPR-based RNA editing approaches.

Applicants with backgrounds in structural biology, computational biology, protein biochemistry, enzymology, microbiology, RNA biology, CRISPR systems, transcriptomics, genetics, or related areas are encouraged to apply. The position requires a Ph.D. in a relevant field. Strong computational and analytical skills are preferred, and Python or R experience is a plus. The lab values mechanistic rigor, scientific curiosity, independence, and collaborative science.

The post is a paid postdoctoral associate position with an expected salary of $60,000-$65,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience. Up to two positions are available. Applications close on 2026-06-30.

To apply, submit a cover letter describing your research experience and interests and indicating your project preference, a CV, and contact information for three professional references. Initial inquiries can be sent to Artem Nemudryi via the lab contact page.
