About this position

🚨 Job alert: Postdoctoral Associate in Physical Oceanography at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science.

This postdoc works across two major AMOC observing programmes: RAPID-MOCHA and OSNAP. The research is centered on Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), ocean observing, mooring observations, satellite altimetry, ocean models, and machine learning.

The research direction is flexible and can be shaped around the candidate’s interests and strengths. Two possible themes are highlighted: (1) investigating the mechanisms that drive coherence, or lack of coherence, of AMOC signals across different latitudes; and (2) developing methods to reconstruct boundary current structure from satellite altimetry, including machine learning approaches.

The position is supervised by Shane Elipot (University of Miami, RAPID-MOCHA PI) and Tiago Bilo (University of Maine, OSNAP PI). Field opportunities include oceanographic cruises in April 2027 and summer 2028.

Funding is NSF-supported through the MOCHA and OSNAP projects. The initial appointment is for one year and is renewable for a second year.

Eligibility: applicants need a PhD in physical oceanography, atmospheric sciences, or a related field. Experience with ocean models, mooring observations, satellite altimetry, or machine learning is desirable.

Interested candidates should read the full posting and apply via the application link provided in the announcement.
