About this position

Postdoctoral Associate in Tissue Metabolism and Equine Insulin Dysregulation at Mississippi State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, in the United States.

The Nancy Fair Link Laminitis Research Center is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to study how key tissues adapt metabolically in equine insulin dysregulation and endocrinopathic laminitis. The project focuses on cellular metabolism, tissue metabolism, insulin signaling, and energy metabolism using ex vivo and tissue-level approaches.

Methods mentioned include primary cell models, precision-cut tissue slices, tissue explants, high-resolution respirometry, extracellular flux analysis, and stable isotope tracing. The successful candidate will help shape the scientific direction of the project, develop independent research questions, and contribute to supervision of graduate students.

Applicants should hold a PhD or be close to completion in Biology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Veterinary Science, or a related field. Strong experience in cellular or tissue metabolism and at least one ex vivo method is expected; metabolic flux, respirometry, insulin signaling analysis, or omics experience is a plus. First-author publications and strong English communication skills are preferred.

The position is full-time for up to 2 years, with salary aligned to the NIH NRSA postdoctoral scale, full university benefits, conference travel support, and professional development funding. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until filled.

To apply, email a CV, cover letter, and three academic references to [email protected].

What's required

Applicants must hold a PhD or be close to completion in Biology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Veterinary Science, or a related discipline. Candidates should have a strong background in cellular or tissue metabolism and hands-on experience with at least one ex vivo approach such as primary cell isolation and culture, tissue explant or slice models, or mitochondrial function assays. Experience with metabolic flux or respirometry techniques, molecular analysis of insulin signaling, or omics data analysis is a plus. First-author publications, strong written and spoken English, and the ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team are expected. Prior equine or large-animal research experience is not required.

How to apply

Submit a detailed CV with publication list, a cover letter describing relevant experience and research interests, and contact details for three academic references by email to [email protected]. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
