About this position

The University of Basel is offering a postdoctoral position in the Dixon Lab within the Department of Biomedicine, Switzerland. This postdoc focuses on cancer immunology with a strong neuro-immunology angle, studying how intra-tumoral neurons and broader neuro-immune interactions influence tumor progression, metastasis, and anti-tumor immunity.

The Department of Biomedicine is a large, interdisciplinary environment jointly run by the University of Basel and University Hospitals Basel, bringing together basic and clinical scientists across many research groups. The advertised project sits at the intersection of tumor biology, immunology, neuroscience, and molecular medicine, and is designed for a candidate eager to lead an independent research project in a collaborative, international lab setting.

Research tasks include in vivo experimentation, handling and managing genetically modified mouse models, spectral flow cytometry, and, where relevant, cell sorting, tissue preparation for RNA sequencing, confocal microscopy, and cellular and molecular biology approaches. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leading role in their work, publish as first author, and present findings in lab and international meetings.

Applicants should hold a PhD in immunology, oncology, or a related field. Strong practical experience in independent in vivo studies and spectral flow cytometry is essential. Additional experience in tissue processing for RNAseq, confocal imaging, and related cellular/molecular techniques is desirable. The lab emphasizes scientific rigor, critical thinking, attention to detail, teamwork, and strong communication skills.

The position is available immediately and remains open until a suitable candidate is found. Applications must be submitted online and include a CV, a brief summary of past accomplishments, and the contact details of three referees for recommendation letters upon request.
