About this position
The Ruđer Bošković Institute, Center for Marine Research in Rovinj, is advertising a Postdoctoral Fellow position (Contest point 3) in the Laboratory for Marine Nanotechnology and Biotechnology. The appointment is linked to the HRZZ project Trophic transfer and toxicity assessment of nanoplastics in coastal ecosystems (T3RANCE), placing the successful candidate at the intersection of marine science, nanotechnology, and environmental/toxicological research.
This is a fixed-term, full-time research post for 4 years (40 hours per week). The position is described as an associate/senior assistant role within the field of Natural Sciences, subfield of Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences, and is based in Rovinj, Croatia, at the Center for Marine Research.
The project theme focuses on nanoplastics in coastal ecosystems, with research interests spanning trophic transfer, toxicity assessment, marine nanotechnology, biochemistry, and (eco)toxicology. Candidates with experience in synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials are particularly encouraged to apply, especially if they also have a strong background in biological sciences or chemistry.
Eligibility requirements include a PhD or equivalent in Natural Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, or Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences), Biotechnical Sciences (Biotechnology, Food Technology, or Interdisciplinary Biotechnical Sciences), or Biomedicine and Health (Basic Medical Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, or Pharmacy). Strong spoken and written English is required. Applicants whose degrees were obtained outside Croatia must obtain formal recognition of their qualification before signing the contract.
Application is electronic only and must be submitted as a single PDF file no larger than 15 MB. Required documents include a CV, diploma, an email address for at least one referee, and any other documentation needed to demonstrate the selection criteria. Applicants must not submit theses or publications as attachments; these may instead be referenced via links. The deadline for applications is 30 October 2026 at 23:00 (Europe/Brussels).
