About this position

The Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Aerosol Chemistry. PSI is Switzerland’s largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences and offers an interdisciplinary, innovative environment with strong training and development support.

The position focuses on advanced aerosol and atmospheric chemistry research, including operation of mass spectrometers such as AMS, online Orbitrap-MS, VOCUS-PTR, and MIPTOF. The postdoc will conduct ambient measurements in polluted areas, perform source apportionment and process investigations, and contribute to chamber and flowtube experiments with an emphasis on solid fuel combustion and mixed-source experiments.

The role also includes publication of results in high-impact journals and support/co-supervision of other postdoctoral fellows and PhD students during research campaigns. The successful candidate will join a collaborative laboratory environment at PSI and contribute to research addressing fundamental and applied problems in atmospheric chemistry and environmental science.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Atmospheric Science, ideally with postdoctoral experience, and be proficient in aerosol mass spectrometric methods. Strong data analysis and programming skills, especially in Python, are required, together with a solid publication record, excellent English, and a team-oriented mindset.

The contract is initially for two years with the possibility of extension. Applications must be submitted online by 5 August 2026, including a list of publications and referee contact details. For further information, candidates may contact Prof. Dr Andre Prevot at [email protected].
