About this position

Postdoctoral Fellow opportunity in Chemistry at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.

The project focuses on electrocatalysis, ion exchange membranes, and the development of novel materials for electrolyzers and fuel cells. The role includes synthesising materials, prototyping and scaled-up demonstration, assessing efficiency and durability metrics, relating performance to life-cycle cost, and designing experiments under schedule constraints.

This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term postdoctoral appointment with possible extension based on performance and/or funding. The salary is AUD 118K–126K plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science. Strong experience in electrocatalysis and/or ion exchange membranes, material synthesis, device assembly, and material characterisation is required. Experience with DFT calculations is preferred but not compulsory. The post also expects evidence of independent research, project management, publications in high-impact journals, conference presentations, teamwork, student supervision, and effective communication.

Supervision is by Professor Chuan Zhao and Dr Quentin Meyer. The role is based in Sydney, Australia and reports to Professor Zhao. Applications close on 2026-11-05.
