About this position

Tulane University’s Department of Communication is inviting applications for an 18-month Postdoctoral Fellow tied to a new center focused on the future of work. The fellow will be an inaugural affiliate of the initiative and will contribute through an independent scholarly agenda, teaching, and participation in departmental intellectual life.

The research emphasis is on work at the intersection of technology, society, politics, and culture. Strongly relevant areas include digital communication, digital employment and work platforms, emerging technologies, big data applications, influence campaigns, advertising, the political economy of attention, social media uses, and digital policy. The department welcomes a range of methodological approaches.

The appointment begins January 5, 2027 and includes a 2-2 teaching load, protected research time, mentorship from faculty, workshop participation opportunities, and access to institutional resources. Salary is commensurate with experience and the role includes a full benefits package.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Communication or a closely related discipline by the start date. The successful candidate should show research productivity appropriate to career stage and the ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate level. Interest in community-engaged or policy-relevant research is preferred.

To apply, submit a cover letter, CV, a writing sample of up to 40 pages, and contact information for at least three professional references through the application portal / Interfolio. Review of applications begins October 15, 2026 and continues until the position is filled. Questions may be directed to Dr. Vicki Mayer at [email protected].
