About this position
Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in Data-assisted Rehabilitation for Upper-Limb after Stroke at the HVL Robotics Lab, Campus Førde, Norway.
The position is part of the cross-disciplinary SARHA – data-driven rehabilitation after stroke project within the Strategic University Program on Digital Health, in collaboration with the Faculty of Technology, Environmental and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, and Helse Førde Hospital.
The research focus is highly relevant for candidates with backgrounds in robotics, computer science, mechatronics, electrical engineering, machine learning, motion control, sensor fusion, and biomedical/rehabilitation technology. The project aims to develop methods and algorithms for personalised adaptive rehabilitation after stroke, using multimodal motion sensors such as cameras, IMUs, EMGs, and force/torque sensors to estimate functional outcomes and support progress monitoring.
Applicants must hold a PhD degree, or have submitted the dissertation by the deadline, in Robotics, Engineering Cybernetics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Required experience includes machine and robot learning, motion sensing, kinematic/dynamic modelling, and motion control. Strong publication record, relevant coursework, programming skills (ROS, Matlab, Python), experimental research experience, and proficiency in English plus Norwegian or another Scandinavian language are important ranking criteria.
The appointment is a 3-year fixed-term postdoctoral position, with possible extension by up to one year if teaching duties are added. The post includes an annual stipend for conference participation, research visits, and equipment, along with standard pension and insurance benefits.
Work location: Campus Førde, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Norway.
How to apply: Submit the application online via Jobbnorge. Upload up to 5 selected publications, a full CV, diplomas/certificates, thesis documents or summaries, other relevant documents, and two references.
