About this position
Indiana University School of Medicine is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in Experimental Functional Genomics and Molecular Genetics for the Azaiez-Booth Laboratory in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The lab studies how genetic variation causes human disease and develops experimental approaches to move from genetic discovery to biological mechanism. The research sits at the intersection of human genetics, molecular genetics, functional genomics, RNA biology, variant interpretation, and precision genomic medicine, with particular interests in genetic hearing loss, alternative splicing, coding and noncoding variants, and scalable functional assays.
The fellow will lead projects in experimental functional genomics, including massively parallel splicing assays, functional characterization of variants, development of gene-specific assays, molecular cloning, genome editing, cell-based functional studies, and quantitative molecular assays. The role is especially suited to candidates who enjoy assay development, troubleshooting technically challenging systems, and translating biological questions into publishable experiments.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field by the start date. Strong hands-on molecular biology skills are important, and willingness to work with mouse models is required. Experience with CRISPR/Cas genome editing, RNA biology, mammalian cell culture, next-generation sequencing-based assays, and multiplexed functional approaches is encouraged.
This is a postdoctoral opening, with strong mentorship in experimental design, manuscript preparation, scientific communication, grant and fellowship writing, mentoring, and development of an independent research program. The posting does not list a stipend amount or deadline. Applications should be submitted through the Indiana PeopleAdmin portal.
