About this position

Heidelberg University is advertising a Postdoctoral Fellow in Health Economics within the Health Economics Team of the Oral Health Section at the Institute of Global Health, under the leadership of Prof. Stefan Listl. The position is aimed at an outstanding researcher with strong expertise in health economics and an interest in oral health, health financing, economic evaluation, and health systems.

The successful candidate will contribute to collaborative research projects with academic partners and public health organisations at local, regional, and global levels, including work in Germany, the EU, and low-resource settings. The advertised research areas include economic evaluation of community-based interventions, experiments and quasi-experiments in health financing, and participatory methods to optimize health systems.

Responsibilities include leading health economics research, supporting project management, publishing in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, developing new research projects, contributing to third-party funding acquisition, and teaching plus supervision of doctoral students. The team also encourages applicants to develop their own research ideas aligned with the group’s interests.

Eligibility highlights: a doctoral degree in health economics or a related field, strong quantitative and coding skills (R, Stata, Python, or similar), and a strong publication record. Experience with quasi-experimental methods is a plus. Good English communication skills are required; German is an advantage.

Employment is offered as a full-time or part-time position (50–100%) on a temporary 24-month contract with TV-L E13 remuneration and standard benefits. The post is based in Heidelberg, Germany, and includes flexible working hours, mobile/hybrid working, training and development opportunities, pension coverage, vacation, and family-friendly workplace support.

Applications are accepted until 2026-05-15 and are reviewed on a rolling basis, so early application is recommended. Apply directly online via the Heidelberg University career portal using the application link provided in the post.
