About this position

Postdoctoral Fellow in Ice Core Chemistry at Stockholm University, Department of Physical Geography.

This postdoctoral project focuses on ice core chemistry, isotope geochemistry, ion chemistry, and paleoclimate. You will work with polar ice core samples from Greenland and Antarctica spanning the Holocene, generating and interpreting geochemical records and combining them with climate reanalysis products. The project aims to develop ice-core-based proxies for atmospheric chemistry and to investigate past solar activity and its influence on atmospheric chemistry.

The role includes sampling, data generation, and analysis of ice core material, including work in a freezer dedicated to ice core storage, subsampling and processing ice core sections, and contributing to the department’s analytical capabilities for ice core chemistry. Strong data analysis skills and experience with analytical instruments, continuous flow analysis (CFA), scripting, and relevant publications are advantageous.

Eligibility: applicants must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent relevant degree from another country, completed by the time the employment decision is made. A doctorate completed within the last three years is preferred, unless special circumstances apply.

Funding and duration: full-time employment for 2–3 years, with possible extension under special circumstances. Salary is individually set. The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR).

Location: Stockholm, Sweden.

How to apply: submit your application via Stockholm University’s recruitment system and include a personal letter and CV, plus any attachments requested in the form. Deadline: 2026-10-07.
