About this position

Indiana University is advertising a Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Harvey Lab within the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington.

The lab focuses on the synthesis and spectroscopy of colloidal inorganic nanomaterials, especially binary and ternary transition metal oxides, chalcogenides, and pnictides. Research directions include developing new synthetic routes for novel nanocrystal compositions and studying their electronic, optical, magnetic, and thermal properties. The postdoc will help build a new lab, contribute to research direction-setting, and support a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science/engineering, or physics by the time of appointment, ideally by May 2026. Strong experience in wet-chemical inorganic nanocrystal synthesis is required, including air-free synthesis and work-up (Schlenk line and glovebox), powder X-ray diffraction, absorption spectroscopy, and electron microscopy. Experience with NMR, ICP-OES/ICP-MS, and time-resolved photoluminescence is preferred. The role also expects mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, good record keeping, publication writing, and helping maintain instrumentation and SOPs.

Funding is listed as a $50,000 salary for the postdoctoral fellow. The posting notes that applicants should be prepared to discuss employer sponsorship needs. For best consideration, apply by 2026-04-10; the expected start date is 2026-06-01.

Applications are submitted through the Indiana University job portal and require a CV, letter of application, and list of references.
