About this position
University of Calgary is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Isotope Hydrology and Hydrogeochemistry at the Hydrologic Analysis Laboratory (UC-HAL). The project focuses on groundwater contributions to streamflow across Alberta using geochemical and isotopic tracers, with an emphasis on understanding groundwater–surface water interactions for water-resource management and policy.
The fellow will be based in either the Department of Civil Engineering or the Department of Earth, Energy and Environment and will work with University of Calgary researchers and collaborators from Alberta Environment and Protected Areas. Research activities include analysis of a provincial geochemical/isotopic database, end-member mixing analysis (EMMA), ensemble hydrograph separation, Bayesian/statistical modelling, and related hydrological and geochemical methods.
This is a postdoctoral opening, not a PhD or master’s call. The appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year, and the salary is $60,000+ CAD per year plus a comprehensive benefits package.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD in Earth Sciences, Geology, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. The PhD should have been awarded within five years of the proposed start date. Strong publication record, excellent communication skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, project-management skills, and proficiency with scientific computing/data-analysis tools are expected. Experience with isotope hydrology, aqueous geochemistry, and geochemical/isotopic tracers is preferred.
How to apply: submit the application through the University of Calgary Careers Portal by 2026-09-01 at 11:59 PM MDT. Include a cover letter, CV, transcripts and degree certificates, and contact details for at least two referees. Review the University of Calgary Postdoctoral Eligibility Guidelines before applying.
