About this position
Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb, Croatia is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow (associate position: Senior Assistant) in the Division of Experimental Physics, Ion Beam Interactions Laboratory. The appointment is for one position on the IPCH HRZZ project “A new approach to deterministic ion implantation with advanced gas ionization detectors”.
The research focus is the development and application of low-energy ion implantation for creating NV colour centres in diamond. This is a strong fit for candidates interested in experimental physics, ion beam interactions, defect engineering in solids, and optical characterization of quantum/materials systems.
The role is a temporary, full-time appointment (40 hours per week) for 20 months, with the contract ending no later than 30 June 2028. A medical examination is required because the work involves an ionizing radiation area (Category B exposed worker). The position includes a six-month trial period.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in Natural Sciences, area of Physics, and have active spoken and written English. Preference is given to candidates with experience in optical characterization and in creating colour centres in diamond using ion implantation. Candidates whose qualifications were obtained outside Croatia must obtain formal recognition before employment. Additional materials requested include a CV, diploma, an email address for at least one referee, and other evidence meeting the selection criteria.
Application deadline: 30 October 2026 at 23:00 (Europe/Zagreb). Applications must be submitted as a single PDF file (maximum 15 MB) by email, and the subject line must include the position title and contest point number. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
