About this position

Postdoctoral Fellow Opening at The Roux Institute, Northeastern University

This is a postdoctoral research opportunity in materials science, advanced/additive manufacturing, and mechanics at The Roux Institute at Northeastern University in Maine. The role supports aerospace and naval applications and is tied to ongoing sponsored research with NASA and U.S. Navy / NAVSEA programs.

The research team is looking for candidates with a PhD and relevant experience in cold spray, additive and advanced manufacturing, materials characterization (including SEM, EDS, and EBSD), mechanical testing, and process–structure–property relationships in crystalline materials. Experience with finite element methods and data-driven engineering is a plus.

Research topics include gas-impermeable metal coatings on carbon fiber composites for lightweight cryogenic storage tanks, cold spray coatings integrated with 3D printed liquid crystal polymers for CubeSat structures, repair and qualification of worn or corroded metallic components, consolidation of ceramics for extreme environments, and development of best practices and in situ monitoring for solid-state additive manufacturing.

The position is highly collaborative and includes interaction with industry partners, government collaborators, and faculty/staff across the Northeastern network. The fellow will also mentor graduate students and undergraduate co-ops. Work is based in both Portland, Maine and the Brunswick, Maine advanced manufacturing facility.

Applicants must be U.S. persons because of sponsored research program requirements. No deadline is stated in the post. To apply, submit a cover letter and resume through the provided application link.
