About this position
Postdoctoral Fellow opportunity at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in the Department of Radiation Oncology.
This full-time, three-year NIH-funded postdoctoral appointment focuses on medical image segmentation, anatomical modeling, and multiphysics simulation for MR-guided brain hyperthermia and brain tumor treatment.
The fellow will develop high-resolution virtual anatomical models of the human head from CT and MRI data, perform manual and semi-automatic segmentation, refine geometries and meshes, and build computational models coupling electromagnetic energy deposition with bioheat transfer to predict SAR and temperature distributions.
Research keywords include medical imaging, electromagnetic modeling, microwave propagation, thermal therapy, finite-element meshing, Python/MATLAB/C++ workflow automation, and clinical translation. The role also includes opportunities to observe clinical hyperthermia treatments and collaborate with medical physicists, engineers, neurosurgeons, imaging scientists, and industry partners.
Required background: a PhD in medical physics, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, applied physics, applied mathematics, or a closely related field; at least one year of direct research experience in medical-image segmentation and 3D anatomical-model development; experience with CT/MRI or similar volumetric datasets; strong quantitative research, writing, and communication skills; and evidence of research productivity.
Preferred experience includes Simpleware, COMSOL, Ansys, electromagnetic or microwave modeling, heat transfer, mesh quality assessment, machine learning for segmentation, DICOM, registration, HPC, GPU computation, and prior work in medical physics or hyperthermia.
Primary supervision is by Dr. Dario Rodrigues, Associate Professor and Lead Hyperthermia Physicist. Applications should be submitted through the online job portal linked in the posting.
