About this position
Postdoctoral Fellow in Neurodegeneration at the P4Health Center of Excellence in Precise Phenotyping and BioDataBanking for Personalised Brain Health, hosted by Łukasiewicz Research Network – PORT Polish Center for Technology Development in Wrocław, Poland.
This postdoctoral opportunity is part of the P4Health CoE, an interdisciplinary initiative advancing Predictive, Preventive, Personalized, and Participatory (P4) medicine. The project is carried out within the MAB/IRA programme of the Foundation for Polish Science and focuses on discovering and validating therapeutic concepts aimed at counteracting brain disorders associated with astrocyte pathology.
The successful candidate will join studies on astrocytic protein quality control in Alzheimer’s disease and will work on understanding the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration. The research uses cell reprogramming methods and state-of-the-art human model systems to investigate the origin and progression of Alzheimer’s pathology, with a strong emphasis on protein quality control pathways, misfolded protein deposition, and cellular mechanisms that may be harnessed for therapeutic development.
This is a translational, mechanism-driven project with a clear path from fundamental discovery to possible clinical studies and commercialization. The team has a strong publication record and prior experience in identifying nervous system pathomechanisms and developing prototype drug candidates. Project outcomes will be protected as intellectual property and supported through downstream implementation pathways.
The position is a full-time temporary postdoctoral role (1.0 FTE) with remuneration of 10,000–14,000 PLN gross, depending on skills, alongside benefits such as private medical care co-financing, sports and wellness card co-financing, group life insurance option, and support from the Social Benefits Fund. The appointment includes integration into a newly founded center with active mentorship, collaboration with an experienced scientific team, and opportunities to attend international conferences and workshops.
Eligibility is aimed at candidates with a PhD in neuroscience, cell biology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field, or those whose PhD dissertation is due within 3 months of the application date. Strong practical experience in cell culture and molecular biology is required, along with prior work related to neurodegeneration or protein quality control. Additional strengths include human cell reprogramming, pharmacological or genetic approaches, international research experience, and bioinformatics skills.
The application deadline is 8 November 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Warsaw), and the expected start date is 1 December 2026. Applicants should submit a CV with publication list, cover letter explaining motivation to join P4Health, PhD diploma or expected defense information, and contact details for two referees via the online application system.
Location: Wrocław, Poland.
