About this position
Utrecht University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in Planetary Politics within the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at the Faculty of Geosciences.
This postdoctoral opening is designed for a researcher who can help build and coordinate a new interdisciplinary initiative on planetary politics, connecting work across political science, international relations, law, governance studies, sustainability science, environmental social science, ethics, science and technology studies, geography, and sociology.
The role involves academic coordination, network-building, fundraising support, and research development. The fellow will work closely with Professor Frank Biermann and Associate Professor Rakhyun E. Kim, and will collaborate with colleagues across Utrecht University as well as external partners such as Wageningen University & Research and Eindhoven University of Technology.
Key responsibilities include organising workshops, seminars, public lectures, and networking meetings; supporting collaboration across disciplines and institutions; identifying joint funding opportunities; contributing intellectually to the emerging planetary politics agenda; and helping prepare communication materials, briefing notes, and event content.
The position is 0.5 FTE for 18 months. The salary is listed as €3,546–€5,538 gross per month for full-time employment under Dutch university scale 10, plus holiday pay, year-end bonus, pension, and other employment benefits.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD in one of the relevant fields, have strong organisational and communication skills, excellent English, and be able to work regularly on campus in Utrecht. Experience with planetary politics-related research, interdisciplinary collaboration, event organisation, proposal writing, or policy/public-facing outputs is an advantage.
