Postdoctoral Fellow in Planetary Politics
within the
Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development
at the Faculty of Geosciences.
This postdoctoral opening is designed for a researcher who can help build and coordinate a new interdisciplinary initiative on
planetary politics
, connecting work across
political science, international relations, law, governance studies, sustainability science, environmental social science, ethics, science and technology studies, geography, and sociology
.
The role involves academic coordination, network-building, fundraising support, and research development. The fellow will work closely with
Professor Frank Biermann
and
Associate Professor Rakhyun E. Kim
, and will collaborate with colleagues across Utrecht University as well as external partners such as Wageningen University & Research and Eindhoven University of Technology.
Key responsibilities include organising workshops, seminars, public lectures, and networking meetings; supporting collaboration across disciplines and institutions; identifying joint funding opportunities; contributing intellectually to the emerging planetary politics agenda; and helping prepare communication materials, briefing notes, and event content.
The position is
0.5 FTE for 18 months
. The salary is listed as
€3,546–€5,538 gross per month
for full-time employment under Dutch university scale 10, plus holiday pay, year-end bonus, pension, and other employment benefits.
Eligibility highlights:
applicants should hold a PhD in one of the relevant fields, have strong organisational and communication skills, excellent English, and be able to work regularly on campus in Utrecht. Experience with planetary politics-related research, interdisciplinary collaboration, event organisation, proposal writing, or policy/public-facing outputs is an advantage.
