About this position
Stockholm University is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for the project EpiSex: The effects of sexual selection on epidemic outcomes at the Department of Zoology. The project is led by Jessica Stephenson and funded through a European Research Council Starting Grant.
This position sits at the intersection of biology, evolution, ecology, epidemiology, statistics, and computer science. The research will examine how sexual selection and mate choice influence parasite transmission and epidemic dynamics. Planned work includes experimental epidemics in artificial selection lines of guppies, AI-assisted behavioural tracking, mathematical modelling, breeding experiments, and phenotyping assays. There is also potential for fieldwork in Trinidad.
The postdoctoral researcher will take a leading role in experimental work, data collection, and quantitative analyses, and will contribute to international collaborations. The role is especially suited to candidates with experience in challenging experiments with small fish, behavioural tracking data, quantification of sexual ornaments and behaviour, and the design of novel experimental setups. Strong Python and R skills are highlighted, along with a publication record and excellent communication abilities.
Eligibility requires a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent relevant degree from another country, completed by the time the employment decision is made. Candidates whose doctorate was completed within the last three years are preferred, unless special circumstances apply.
